Understanding
Gaslighting.
When repeated denial of events makes you doubt your own experience.
What it can mean
People use the word gaslighting for a pattern of undermining someone’s confidence in their perceptions. A single disagreement or forgotten detail does not necessarily mean this is happening.
Notice the pattern
You might recognize this when…
You may recognize some of these patterns in your own experience.
- ✳You often leave conversations doubting your memory
- ✳Your concerns are repeatedly dismissed as imagined
- ✳It feels hard to trust your own perspective
Recognizing a pattern doesn’t automatically tell you why someone behaves this way. Context matters.
A question to sit with
“Is there someone you trust who can listen without deciding for you?”
Does this feel familiar?
You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.
